Evolution of the Dolly Zoom

The Dolly Zoom rose to prominence with Hitchcock’s Vertigo when cameraman Irmin Roberts needed a technique to convey the protagonist’s agoraphobia. He achieved this by zooming in with the lens while simultaneously dollying the camera backwards.
