Movies of the Year 2007

Hmm…not a great year for movies by any stretch, and in fact that noise you can hear is the sound of barrels being scraped to make up the top eleven. There are of course a few flicks I heard great things about that slipped through the net – Knocked Up, Superbad, The Simpsons Movie for instance – but surely these movies are more worthy to be seen on DVD. Anyway, enough of my whining; on with the list.

Wow. What a debut. What a commanding central performance and what a way to change genre mid way through.

“Would you like it gift wrapped?” “No, It’s for me.”
Was there a more poignant end to a film this year?

It’s taken a while for the French film industry to get back to doing what it does very very well…adapting American crime novels. Well worth the wait: this is superb. Still not sure how the hell that chase sequence was shot, though.

Lot of people had a problem with this film and, rather like 28 Days Later it does fall apart somewhat in the third act, but still a great ride.

Rather like last year’s United 93, even though I was fully aware of how this was going to end I still found myself repeating ‘Oh, maybe I was wrong…he did go on the US tour after all.’
